The Retirement Score, a proprietary tool used by Legassie Financial provides a in-depth look at your retirement readiness. We'll go over what it is, and why it's important to you.
Am I Ready to Retire | Retirement Planning

If you’ve ever asked yourself, “Am I really ready to retire?

You’re not alone.

Retirement can feel like a moving target. That’s why tools like a retirement readiness calculator exist. At Legassie Financial, we use a personalized, unique tool developed in-house called The Retirement Score to help you understand how financially prepared you are.

The Retirement Score helps you understand where you are, where you want to be at to achieve your desired retirement lifestyle, and the steps you can take to get there faster.

Understand the Retirement Score

Your Retirement Score is like a financial report card for retirement planning. It looks at how well your current savings and future income stack up against your expected retirement expenses.

We calculate your score using:

  • Registered and non-registered savings and investments
  • Expected income from CPP, OAS, pensions, and other sources
  • Lifestyle and spending goals in retirement
  • Time until retirement and expected lifespan
  • Assumptions around inflation and healthcare costs

A higher score means you’re in strong shape. A lower score doesn’t mean failure — it just highlights areas to improve before retirement begins.

Why It’s More Useful Than a Simple Estimate

More Financial Stability, Less Flexibility

While some retirement tools give you a basic number, your Retirement Score is more holistic. It evaluates your entire financial health rather than just your savings balance.

It helps answer:

  • Am I saving enough right now?
  • Can I retire when I want to?
  • How do I compare to others at a similar life stage?
  • What adjustments could improve my readiness?
  • Having this level of clarity can make planning less overwhelming and more actionable.

Let's look at an example

Monica, Age 56

Monica, a high school teacher in Richmond, wanted to retire at 62. She’d saved diligently but wasn’t sure if it was enough.

After completing her Retirement Score module, she discovered she was nearly on track — but needed to boost her savings slightly and delay taking CPP until age 65. With those small changes, her score moved into the healthy range, and so did her confidence.
